

In the ancient Greek and medieval worldview, the classical elements were the fundamental building blocks of the universe and everything in it. These elements were believed to be the basic essence of all matter, and they were thought to be eternal and unchanging. The classical elements were: earth, air, fire, water, and ether.
Ether was the element that was believed to make up the celestial spheres and the material that filled the space between them. It was thought to be the purest and most perfect of all the elements, and it was associated with the divine. In some belief systems, ether was also seen as the medium through which light and other electromagnetic waves traveled.
